According to USA Today, Frankie Edgar has decided to step up and face Jose Aldo at UFC 153 in Brazil for the featherweight crown. The original opponent, Erik Koch, was injured and forced to pull out of the fight.

This is a huge fight, a dream fight between one of the best lightweight fighters ever against the best featherweight fighter ever. I still feel that Edgar beat Henderson in their last fight, so I see it as the number one guy at 155 lbs fighting the number one guy at 145 lbs. Aldo does have more speed and power, but Edgar should not be counted out. Edgar has the better cardio and is awesome at changing levels to get a takedown. We’ve seen Florian, Faber, and Hominick last all five rounds with Aldo, so I think this is going five rounds as well. Both are an incredibly tough style match up for each other. Aldo can hurt Edgar badly, either with legkicks or the perfectly timed strike to the head. But if the Aldo that showed up against Hominick and Florian shows up against Edgar, it’s going to be Edgar’s night. This night will also feature the Jon Fitch vs Erick Silva tilt, so it should be a really awesome night of fights.
