UFC 142 Preview – Rousimar Palhares vs Mike Massenzio

When Rousimar Palhares fights, it’s an event. Sometimes it’s scary, sometimes it’s funny, and most of the time it’s just plain weird. Whether it’s accusing Marquardt of greasing his leg and calling for a time out, premature celebrations against Dan Miller, or holding on to submissions too long, Palhares is a one of a kind type of fighter. His backstory is also every bit as fascinating as his fighting style. He uses powerful slams, hits like a madman and goes after legs like his life depended on it.

His fight against Dan Miller at UFC: Rio was insane and awesome! It was like a movie that perfectly blends action, comedy and twists. His fight with Dave Branch back in March of 2011 was spectacular stuff. Rousimar Palhares totally outgrappled a Renzo Gracie BJJ black belt and then tapped him out with a nasty knee bar. If Palhares grabs a hold of your leg, it’ll probably be over soon. If it’s not over then, he’ll find another way to grab it again!

Mike Massenzio is a decent fighter, but he doesn’t feel like a UFC caliber fighter. He had a fun fight with Cantwell at UFC 136, but even then he struggled with a decent at best guy. I think Massenzio should have his right hand ready to tap if he doesn’t want to have his leg torn off. It’s going to be a good night if you love the Rousimar Palhares and Murilo Bustamante power couple of BJJ greatness.
