UFC 144 – Cheick Kongo vs Mark Hunt Preview

In a way, this is the closest we have to a PRIDE-type fight on the card. Both guys have the knockout power to finish each other, but Kongo is the superior fighter. In the last three years, Kongo has only lost to Mir and Velasquez, and he even managed to almost knock out Velasquez on multiple occasions in their fight. He is the better and cleaner striker than Hunt, but Hunt still has that power.

Hunt’s had great fight but his last fight with Rothwell was really painful to watch (although I would blame that more on Rothwell). Although a lame fight, it was Hunt’s best win since 2005. At this point in 2012, Hunt doesn’t have what it takes to ever come close to being a top ten heavyweight. It should be a fun fight with Kongo winning (Kongo could even win the fight sooner if he resorts to some short grabbing and low blows).
