- Nick Denis’ violent elbow stoppage of Joseph Sandoval is a great candidate for knockout of the year. Amazing elbows. It’s almost as cool as Denis’ previous knock out of Nick Mamalis via suplex-chokeslam combo.
- Pineda made quick work of Schilling, it was a nice finish via rear naked choke. Good performance.
- Tommy Hayden didn’t look bad considering it was his UFC debut and that he took the fight on short notice. But Camoes grappling was still too much, it was sweet how he got on top of Hayden. Then the way he finished off Hayden was great stuff. Good one for Fabricio Camoes.
- Charlie Brenneman got some nice crucifixes on Daniel Roberts and outgrappled him to a clear unanimous decision win. It was a good bounce back from the way he looked against Anthony Johnson in his last fight. Even though Brenneman clearly won this fight, Cesar Gracie’s Daniel Roberts did have some good moments during scrambles. But considering this is now three losses in a row, this might be Roberts last fight inside the UFC for a while.
- Khabib Nurmagomedov had a great performance against Kamal Shalorus, I was shocked at how easily he beat up Kamal. After Kamal almost got finished in the first, it looked like he was never the same. It wouldn’t shock me if he doesn’t remember anything that happened after the first round.
- Nice to see Jorge Rivera go out with a victory like that. He was able to survive the brief moments in the ground against a tough grappler like Schafer and come back in the second to win in typical Rivera fashion. Good win for Rivera.
- Nice to see Barry able to survive Morecraft getting him to the ground like that. A few years ago, it would have been all over for Barry. He has improved and it was a really good knock out to put away Morecraft. This is the Barry everyone loves.
- Easton-Papazian was good, pretty fun and competitive fight. I thought Easton slightly won the fight, but I would give the final round to Papazian. Good fight, nice to see that Dana gave these guys a bonus too.
- Kinda cool that Josh Neer has now eight wins in his last nine fights (his last loss coming to Eddie Alvarez). Neer is super tough and has always been one of the more fun fighters around. He was able to capitalize on Ludwig and lock in the guillotine choke for the win. Really fun three minute fight.
- Looked like Miller was in a lot of trouble early on but he is one of the toughest lightweights around. Great to see him survive that early onslaught by Guillard. Guillard made the mistake of going for that flying knee too often and Miller got the fight where he wanted it. Beautiful to see how Miller too the back and was able to lock in the bodylock and rear naked choke. Miller still is one of the best submission grapplers in the division, and I’m excited to see where he goes from now. Unfortunately for Guillard, he might never have sufficient submission defense to get him to a title shot.
