STFC 40: The Bull vs. The Spaniard Part Dos

STFC, Texas’ number one promotion, is back with another stacked card to close out the year. The marquee has a familiar match up that STFC fans saw back in June 2015 at STFC 35: Texas vs The World where Sammy “The Bull” Guardiola picked up a split decision win over Andoni Sorando. Sorando has been hellbent on getting a rematch to prove he was in fact the winner of the first clash. This seems like a step back for Guardiola since he’s already proven he was the better fighter that night (in the judges’ eyes at least) and is riding a six fight win streak. Guardiola’s only loss was in 2011 in his debut fight against Rubin Martinez. Guardiola was slated to fight Elias Garcia last year in October put was replaced by Leroy Martinez. It seemed like the Guardiola taking on Garcia was the most obvious choice for the bantamweight title but that wasn’t in the plans this time around. If Guardiola is victorious once again it seems like he would be up to challenge for a title or even make a move to Combate Americas.

The co-main event features two seasoned women fighters who have fought the “Who is Who” of the WMMA world- from Holly Holm to Meisha Tate. Ohio native Jan Finney will be locking up with  Allinah Jones from Grand Rapid, Michigan in a neutral territory. This will be the second time both ladies have squared off. Finney walked away with a unanimous decision in their last meeting that occurred last November in Finney’s billed hometown of Dayton, Ohio. Jones will be coming in with a six fight losing streak and desperately needs to get a win  here against 12 year veteran Finney. Finney hasn’t seen any cage action since her bout with Jones while Jones has been in one fight. You can find their previous fight below.

After a three year lay off and several scratched bouts , Abram Torres will (finally) be making his highly anticipated return to the cage against Laredo’s Daniel Cervantes. This match was originally scheduled to take place on the undercard of Bellator 143 but was canceled at the last minute. Fight fans are hyped to see one of the pioneers of RGV MMA step into the cage again after a long hiatus. Torres has remained active as a Muay Thai instructor and a coach to some of the Valley’s elite and now is running Wolf Pack MMA.

Miguel Vega of Brownsville will also be returning to the cage after taking two years off. The younger brother of RGV MMA pioneer, Luis Vega, will be facing the fast rising Zach Farrington. Both competitors are coming into this bout with three fights and only suffering one loss- Farrington is coming off a submission loss to Peyton Burns of Austin and Vega is coming off his own submission loss to Valley favorite, Amador Ramirez, at STFC 28. Crazy Z has shown great promise since his amateur debut and looks to regain his momentum with a win over Vega.

Eduardo Bustillos will also be returning to action after a year off. Bustillos last fight was under the bright lights of the Bellator undercard where he was stopped by Stephen Garcia with one second remaining in the first round. Bustillos hasn’t gotten his hand raised since his steamrolling of opponents in 2013-2014. Bustillos needs a win badly here in his contest against Marin Moreno. A win could place him in the title picture once again since the strap has been vacated by Josh Montalvo. Before Bustillos sets his eyes on the gold, he must get through Marin Moreno first. Moreno is a six fight veteran and has fought for STFC and other Texas regional promotions.

Other local favorites and new blood will also be appearing on STFC 40. The event will be held at the Mcallen Convention Center, also known as the “STFC Combat Zone”. Ticket Information

Tickets can be purchased through the fighters themselves (which is what I recommend) or you can get them at the box office or through Ticketmaster. Keep in mind that you will pay Ticketmaster service charges if you go that route. From the map that Ticketmaster is providing, the setup is going to be the same as STFC 38.
